Chinese giant Xiaomi impressed this year with the launch of its 13 series range of phones, but such is the pace of technology evolution that the company is already hard at work on the phones that will be its successors.
This is all we know so far about Xiaomi’s 14 series.
When will the Xiaomi 14 series go on sale?
Xiaomi has yet to tell us any official release dates, but the company has been fairly consistent with previous generation releases over the past few years. New phones usually arrive in China at the end of the year, so they have launched worldwide soon after. Here’s a look at when the latest models debuted:
Other variants exist, as Xiaomi usually releases T versions of its phones, such as the Xiaomi 12T Pro, about six months after the other models in the series. These are cheaper and less specced variants than the flagships, which exist in a slightly different category.
Judging by the pattern above, it is expected that the Xiaomi 14 series will launch in China in December 2023 and the models will reach the rest of the world around February or March 2024. As with many Chinese phones, it is highly unlikely that they will ever be available in the United States.
How much will the Xiaomi 14 series cost?
As with the release date, there’s been no confirmation of what the new models will cost, so we’re looking to the precedents for some clues. These have been the launch prices:
- Xiaomi 13: €999 (approx. MXN$18,794 / US$1,078)
- Xiaomi 13 Pro: €1,299 (approx. MXN$24,437 / US$1,407)
- Xiaomi 13 Lite: €499 (MXN$9,387 / US$575)
- Xiaomi 13 Ultra: €1,499 (MXN$28,201 / US$1,588)
- Xiaomi 12: €849 (MXN$15,972 / US$749)
- Xiaomi 12 Pro: €1,049 (approx. MXN$19,736 / US$999)
- Xiaomi 12 Lite: €395 (approx. MXN$7,431/ US$399)
As you can see, there were slight price increases in the 13 range, but we think Xiaomi is likely to stay around the same levels when the Xiaomi 14 range arrives.
What features will we see in the Xiaomi 14 range?
With the possible release date of the 14 series still in the distance, we haven’t seen many details when it comes to technical specifications. However, some rumors have recently surfaced that shed some light on what Xiaomi might have up its sleeve.
GSMArena has reported leaks coming from China that the 14 series would be one of the first phones to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The release is scheduled for October, so the schedule fits perfectly.
According to the report, the configuration will include a Cortex-X4 main core, 5 Cortex-A720 cores, and 2 Cortex-A520 cores, forming a 1+5+2 architecture. There should also be an Adreno 750 processor handling the graphics GPU if the above reports turn out to be true.
So far we have not seen any rumors about the cameras. The current Xiaomi 13 comes with a 50 MP f/1.88 main camera with OIS, a 12 MP f/2.2 wide-angle camera, a 10 MP f/2.2 telephoto camera, and a 32 MP f/2.0 front camera.
This is pretty standard for flagships, but the front camera isn’t very powerful. So, Xiaomi could be considering enhancing the quality of the selfie camera.
One possibility is that the 1-inch sensor that appeared on the Xiaomi 13 Pro will become standard on the 14 and 14 Pro models, although there is little chance that it will appear on the Lite version.
Digital Chat Station, a regular from China, has published that the battery of the Xiaomi 14 will be 4,860 mAh with a charging capacity of 90 W, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro should surpass it with a 5,000 mAh cell and a 120 W charge. Both will also have 50 W wireless charging.
