Samsung will utilize Snapdragon chips until its own CPUs are ready.

Over the last year, there have been rumors that Samsung might only use Snapdragon processors in its Galaxy S23 line of smartphones. A Qualcomm representative had said before that the company’s chips will be used in more and more Galaxy devices in the near future. A new rumor says that Samsung will keep using Snapdragon processors until its updated Exynos processors are ready for prime time.

A report from Daum Money said that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU would be the only choice for Samsung’s next Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra phones worldwide. The report also says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor used in the Galaxy S23 series is not the standard version of this chip. Instead, it is a version that has been tuned for the Galaxy S23 series and has a faster clock speed. But the source doesn’t say for sure what changes have been made to the device.

Samsung will utilize Snapdragon chips until its own CPUs are ready.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU was used in more Samsung Galaxy S22 series phones last year than it was the year before. And in some markets, the Exynos 2200 chipset was used in the Galaxy S22 series, even though it turned out to be a bad processor. In terms of how well the GPU worked overall, it wasn’t quite as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. On the other hand, it wasn’t until recently that it was found that the Exynos 2200 is better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at raytracing for games.

Recent news stories say that Samsung is in the process of reorganizing the group that is in charge of making its own chipsets. Before, Samsung’s System LSI division was in charge of making the company’s Exynos semiconductors. However, it appears that Samsung’s smartphone division has its own team of engineers working on a high-end chipset that will only be used in Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The first chip from this team is expected to come out in 2025.

If you’re looking forward to the Galaxy S23 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, you can pre-order it now and get a $50 credit to use at the Samsung online store.
